Meet the Directors
Anthony Wang
Director of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
Anthony Wang is a first-year at Harvard College from Seattle, Washington and is planning on concentrating in Economics and Social Studies. He was involved in debate during high school but had always wanted to try out Model UN– his only obstacle was that his high school did not offer it. After coming to Harvard, he joined the Intercollegiate Model UN team and loves the team! Aside from Model UN, he is involved in consulting and singing. He also loves snowboarding, swimming, and going on a good hike.
Anthony is beyond delighted to welcome you to the 16th session of Harvard Model United Nations China and is looking forward to directing your ASEAN regional committee.
Jia Michel
Director of the World Health Organization (WHO)
Jia Michel is a first-year student from Brooklyn New York planning to concentrate in Computer Science and History. Jia is especially excited to be hosting HMUN China as many of my family members live in Guangzhou.
Jia started Model U.N. in 6th grade and has seen the massive impact it makes on public speaking, research and collaboration. She is excited to be chairing her 5th committee (but first specialized committee!) on the World Health Organization. When not at Model U.N., Jia loves to throw potlucks, watch movies and explore new foods.
Jimmy Merino
Director of the Futuristic Crisis Committee (FCC)
Jimmy Merino is a sophomore at Harvard College, studying Economics and Government.
At Harvard, he is an active member of the Model United Nations community. Currently, he serves as the Under-Secretary-General of Finance for HMUN China and Canada. He also actively competes on the Intercollegiate Model United Nations team. This will be his 6th-ever MUN conference he’s chaired! What he loves most about MUN is how it pushes everyone to understand the world through perspectives other than their own. Jimmy looks forward to seeing how you all adapt to HMUN’s unique structure and engage with each other.

LJ Knight is a rising fourth year student at Harvard College studying Chemistry and History and Science. He is thrilled to be directing the International Telecommunications Union for HMUN China 2026.
This committee is the first one of its kind being offered at HMUN China, so he is excited to see what you all make of the committee. This is his second year being a part of HMUN China, so he is also looking forward to seeing new and returning faces! In his free time, he loves going to the beach, trying new restaurants, and reading mystery novels. LJ looks forward to welcoming you all to the conference. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

She finds herself particularly interested in exploring issues like religious freedom, women’s rights, and peacebuilding. Outside of Model UN, Noa loves backpacking, finding great brunch spots, creating art projects, and reading trashy celebrity magazines.

Throughout his high school years, Oliver has been a frequent participant in various MUN conferences and business competitions. This is his second time running the IBCC at HMUN China, and he has come to see this committee as an incredible place where all of you will be able to not only apply your business skills, but your diplomacy as well. Oliver and HMUN China’s host partners have worked tirelessly to make this committee not only educational but also fun and exciting, with plenty of HMUN-specific modifications.
Oliver is honored to introduce himself as your IBCC committee director in this year’s HMUN China!
Ozzie Comer
Director of the Commission on Social Development (CSocD)
Ozzie Comer is currently a freshman at Harvard College concentrating in Philosophy and Government. Originally from Plattsburgh, New York, he has been involved in MUN since middle school and has loved every minute of it. He is a part of the Intercollegiate Model UN team at Harvard and has had the opportunity to travel across the U.S. with the team. He is also involved in the other HMUN conferences hosted in Boston. Outside of MUN, Ozzie is a member of the Harvard Canadians and spends a lot of his free time rock climbing and running.
He has lived just across from Quebec most of his life and has taken a special interest in their unique political and social situation, so he is super excited to explore this committee topic with you all! He cannot wait to witness some productive and heated debate and collaboration between all of the delegates over the course of the committee. He is anticipating some creative solutions and fresh perspectives on this topic.
Ozzie is extremely excited to welcome you all to the 16th session of Harvard Model United Nations China, and he can’t wait to be your director for the Commission on Social Development!
Rocio Jimenez
Director of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD)
Rocio Jimenez is a junior at Harvard College studying Economics and Government. She was born and raised in Tucumán, Argentina.
During high school, Rocio discovered her passion for debate, social development, and international relations, which sparked her global perspective and even motivated her to apply to universities in the United States.
At Harvard, Rocio has been actively involved in Model UN and also dances with the Harvard Candela Latin Dance Troupe. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching musical theater, learning new languages, and writing.
Rocio is very excited to welcome everyone to HMUN China 2026!
Romi Chaovat
Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
Romi Chaovat is a sophomore at Harvard College concentrating in History and Science with a secondary in Molecular and Cellular Biology on the pre-medical track. When she came to Harvard, she joined the Intercollegiate Model UN (ICMUN) team as a competing delegate, and it was those enriching experiences that encouraged her to further extend her involvement at HMUN China.
Aside from Model UN, Romi work in a genetics lab and serves as a board member for Harvard Global Research and Consulting (GRC), a nonprofit consulting group. Her global health work in GRC directly informed the focus of the UNDP committee, and she is looking forward to seeing how each delegate narrows the scope of the vast developmental challenge posed by drug-resistant tuberculosis. She looks forward to meeting you all soon!
Sydney Burns
Director of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL)
Sydney is a first-year at Harvard College, originally from Milton, Massachusetts. She is interested in studying Social Studies and History.
Sydney’s experiences with Model UN in high school made her excited to explore MUN at Harvard, and she has since been able to compete for the competitive MUN team across the country, staff HMUN and HNMUN, and is super excited to explore MUN at HMUN China! Sydney’s interests particularly lie in development in post-conflict states, which has made her excited to see how delegates compromise and navigate SPECPOL. Outside of MUN, Sydney’s involved with the Harvard Public Opinion Project and Harvard’s Organization for Prison Education and Advocacy. In her free time, she likes to get sweet treats with her friends and read. Sydney cannot wait to meet all the delegates at HMUN China!

She was first introduced to Model UN in high school and fell in love with its fun, fast-paced, and flexible debate style. She especially enjoyed crisis committees because delegates could use collaboration and creativity to influence the direction of committees. Since coming to Harvard, she joined the Harvard Intercollegiate team and has had the chance to staff several conferences in Boston. This will be Zhaoxin’s first time directing at HMUN China, and she is so excited to meet everyone and see where you take the Boxer Rebellion!
Yavuz Atlamaz
Director of the United Nations Economic and Social Council for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)
Yavuz Atlamaz is a Harvard undergraduate studying philosophy and government. He is super excited to be able to spread his love for MUN overseas.
With great pleasure he welcomes you all to the 16th session of Harvard Model United Nations China! He is incredibly excited to direct this iteration’s ECOSOC committee on the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
With the trade barriers between allied ASEAN nations and non-ASEAN partner nations like China, there’s been an awful lot of commercial tension destabilizing the region. The future of Southeast Asian trade and commerce lies in your hands, and Yavuz looks forward to seeing what you all accomplish during this committee. He can’t wait to see you all soon and to tackle some of the world’s largest problems together!
